The University of Georgia recently opened a CHaRM (Center for Hard to Recycle Materials) center in the Miller Learning Center (MLC) on main campus. CHaRM x UGA, as it is called, is a drop-off location for hard-to-recycle materials for UGA students, faculty members, or anyone with access to UGA's Miller Learning Center. CHaRM drop-offs provide a valuable service by accepting and properly disposing of items that require special processing due to their composition, size, or environmental impact.
CHaRM x UGA was made possible through an invaluable partnership with ACC CHaRM and spearheaded by an interdisciplinary team of UGA students passionate about waste reduction who were awarded a Campus Sustainability Grant. UGA Libraries and the UGA Office of Sustainability further developed and implemented the center. Items deposited at CHaRM x UGA are transported by UGA Waste Reduction Services to the ACC CHaRM where they are properly managed to ensure safe disposal or new life.
UGA Office of Sustainability partners with CIRT, a waste reduction technology platform, to deliver real-time, up-to-date, recycling information to UGA students and faculty via the UGA Waste Reduction website. CHaRM x UGA was added as a new drop-off location and includes the following items:

CIRT will continue to update this drop-off location as needed.
By diverting hard-to-recycle items from landfills, CHaRM centers significantly reduce the environmental burden and extend the life of existing landfills. Landfills are not only space-consuming but also a source of various pollutants, including methane, a potent greenhouse gas. By redirecting materials to recycling facilities, CHaRM centers help mitigate these negative impacts. Many of the materials collected at CHaRM centers can be processed and reused, conserving natural resources and reducing the need for virgin materials.
CHaRM x UGA at the Zell Miller Learning Center is a significant addition to campus and the wider community. The new, on-campus CHaRM exemplifies how innovative partnerships between municipalities, universities, and businesses can have a positive impact on the community and the environment.
CHaRM x UGA is now open for the upcoming school year and is located on the 2nd floor of the Miller Learning Center outside Room 212, down the hall from Jittery Joe's. Fall and Spring Semester Hours:
